Gordon Banks OBE was a member of the English Nation Football team that won the world cup in 1966 for the first (and last) time. We haven't been anywhere near winning it since so you can imagine this squad are still held in high esteem here in the UK almost 45 years later. On the other hand, if any of those fans had actually heard this track from 1972 they may change their minds.
Written & Produced by Tony Hatch,I particularly like the line "no matter what happens, '72 will be remembered always as our year".
Anyone remember how we did in '72?

A dark period for the football team as well.
England beaten by Germany in the Q/F of Euro 72 then failing to qualify for anything until 1980.
Also should add it was a really bad year for Banks as he lost an eye in a car accident in 1972, which as a goalie meant he had to give up football :(
