This is Tony Burrows' third chart hit that week (he was the session man who did the bulk of the Pickwick 'Top of the Pops' covers and fronted Edison Lighthouse). It was written for the serial 'Oliver in the Overworld' (part of Freddie Garrity's 'Little Big Time', an ITV 'Crackerjack' knock-off) about a lad stuck inside a giant grandfather clock.
Yes, really. It was 1970.
There were a lot of other catchy ditties in this story (easily better than the garbage Sid and Marty Krofft were promulgating) but this one, to everyone's surprise, charted and got written into the underscore for the 'Benny Hill' show. Yes, it's crap, but it's heroic crap.
